Tips for Buying Used Construction Equipments

Renting from a construction equipment rental company is a common practice for building on a budget. Equipment rentals in San Diego provide quick and convenient ways to have access to equipment. But an alternative to construction equipment rental would be buying used equipment which may prove to be more practical in the long run. Here are some tips on getting good deals when purchasing used construction equipment.

Be sure to try the equipment yourself. Never allow the appeal of a good price cloud your logic and reasoning. No matter how persuasive the salesperson is, no matter how reputable the product brand is, take a good look at the product. Give it a test drive. Don’t be satisfied with a leisurely drive around the lot…do some lifting, digging, pushing, and scraping!

Observe carefully and thoroughly. Don’t be deceived by new paint jobs –they can be used to cover up problems. Be on the look-out for rust and defective parts. Do an inspection underneath the vehicles to check for leaks.

Use all your senses. How does it sound? Listen to the hydraulic system and engine. Do you smell anything unusual? Perhaps burning oil? And how does it feel? Are the controls easy to maneuver?

Deal with companies or shops that focus on construction. For one, they will have a reputation. Two, they’ll understand what it is exactly you need and will need in the future. Three, they can do repairs for you. Lastly, they can provide you with warranties.
